
Public Speaking and Debate is kind of our family’s “thing”
“Glossophobia,” or the fear of public speaking, is an affliction estimated to affect 75% of the population. The Cushens long ago adopted the motto made popular by Jon Acuff, “Punch Fear in the Face.” I have always told my kids that they don’t have to love public speaking but they ought not fear it. In these pictures you can see my eldest, an introvert, prove this point. Chosen among his peers to represent them on the floor of Florida’s House of Representatives to debate the merits of their bills for which he won “Outstanding Statesman” and was elected Chief Financial Officer for the State of Florida Youth in Government Program. Additionally, the Drama/Improv classes offered immediately after this class can add to your child’s skill set and confidence.
